On Target

At Gold Arrow Camp, we strive to not only provide our campers with memorable, happy, and life-changing camp experiences during the summer, but also to provide resources to our camp families that enhance our campers’ lives year-round. On Target, our Magazine for Camp Families, is an annual resource we provide for that purpose.

In each edition, we feature articles from parenting experts, best-selling authors passionate about positive youth development, and long-time staff members.

Our current On Target features articles and excerpts on several topics that directly impact our children’s (and our own) happiness. Camp Director and parenting blogger Audrey “Sunshine” Monke shares the five ways that camp grows grit and why kids need to get uncomfortable.  Happiness expert Christine Carter, author of Raising Happiness and The Sweet Spot writes about grit vs. intelligence. We also have an article on how much screen time is healthy by the filmmaker Delany Ruston.  Renowned child therapist Bob Ditter joins us to share four simple words for better communication with your child. Educator, writer, and speaker Jessica Lahey, who has also been featured in The Atlantic and The New York Times, shares an excerpt from her book, The Gift of Failure

In addition to those experts, we have stories about some of our activities from Alison “Bean” Moeschberger and the growth mindset from one of our long-time camp doctors, Emily “Fish” Andrada. And for people who have been a part of our Gold Arrow family, there’s a feature on campers who have become staff members. To top it off, Steve “Monkey” Monke shares some of his favorite healthy camp recipes.
