September 20 is the last day to pre-order your copy of Sierra Summers, The History of Gold Arrow Camp.
This beautiful, full-color book will be a meaningful keepsake for families whose children have enjoyed their childhood summers at camp, as well as for alumni wanting to reminisce about GAC’s early years.
The book begins with the story of camp founder Manny Vezie’s odyssey from Notre Dame football (where he played under coach Knute Rockne and was in the locker room for the “Gipper” speech) to an extremely brief law career, dabbling in Hollywood as an advisor (and sometime actor) in football movies, and, finally, to fulfilling his dream of starting a summer camp for boys at Huntington Lake.
The eras of GAC are all included in this hard cover volume filled with photos and mementos from every decade of camp’s history including the early years, the Manny and Jeanie Vezie era, and the current era with the Monke family at the helm.
Long-time staff member and writer Chuck “Woody” Radke has been researching and writing the book for several years. He has interviewed countless past and current campers and staff members, collected and recorded their camp stories, and discovered interesting facts from each era of GAC’s rich history.
Sierra Summers is being printed and shipped in November, 2017, in anticipation of GAC’s 85th anniversary in the summer of 2018.
