Application Information

C12Providing campers with a quality camp program means having a highly skilled staff who bring with them their warmth and enthusiasm for working with children. We are looking for a diverse staff who share the common goal of providing the best camp experience possible to the children we serve. Because of the intensity of the work, the long hours, and the stress created by being fully responsible for a group of children, working at camp is not for everyone. Being a counselor at Gold Arrow Camp can be extremely rewarding as well as challenging.

Application Process & Tips

      • Review all information on this website.
This job is not a good fit for everyone. Be sure to watch the videos and read through the philosophy and expectations. All staff are expected to be available to work the full summer season (June 14-August 19, 2017) at a minimum. Hiring preference is given to candidates who are also available to work the final week of camp (August 20-26). Email us at staff@goldarrowcamp.com if you have any questions.

      • Apply online.
Click the link at the bottom of this page to begin your online application. You will be asked to create an account, and you will have the option to save your progress and return to the application to complete it at a later date. We will not review incomplete applications.

      • Contact your references.
It is essential that you contact your references to make them aware that you have completed an application to work at Gold Arrow Camp and that they should expect to hear from us by phone or email. Ignoring this important step may impact your chances of getting hired to work at camp. Be sure to follow the instructions on the application about who can serve as a reference for you. We will not accept references from friends, family friends, or family members. Current or past Gold Arrow Camp staff will not be considered one of your four required references. The best references are employers, managers, teachers, and coaches who know your work ethic and character well.

      • We will email you within 1 week of receiving your application.
If we have available positions that match your skills and experience, we will email you to let you know that we would like to conduct a preliminary interview with you. If we do not feel that you are a good match for camp or if we do not have available positions, we may send you an email thanking you for applying and letting you know that we will not pursue your application further at that time. If you do not hear from us at all within one week of submitting your application, please email staff@goldarrowcamp.com to follow up.

      • Preliminary Interview.
Our preliminary interview takes place on SparkHire, a web-based interview platform. You will have a link to complete your one-way video interview at your convenience. You will log in to the SparkHire website, and you will answer ten questions. The camera on your computer, iPad, or phone will record video of you answering each question, and you will be able to view your answers before you submit them. It may sound intimidating, but it’s an easy process!  Plan on this interview taking approximately 30 minutes to complete.

      • We will begin calling your references.
Again, it is not a good sign if your references are surprised to hear from us or don’t know who you are well enough to provide a reference for you. If we attempt to make contact with your references twice and do not hear back from them, we will ask you to assist us with getting in contact with them before we can allow you to continue on in the application process.

      • We will contact you by email within one week of your preliminary interview.
If your initial interview is successful and we still feel that you may be a good fit for one of our available positions, we will email you to schedule a time for your second interview. We conduct the second interview using the live interview feature on SparkHire, which is similar to Skype or FaceTime. If you are not a good match for our program after the initial interview or if we do not anticipate having an available position that matches your skills, we may email you at this point to let you know that we will not pursue your application further.

      • Interview by video chat.
The second interview will last approximately 45 minutes and is an important time to ask questions about camp and the expectations of the job. The second interview focuses on your past experiences and how they have prepared you for a job as a camp counselor.

      • We will contact you by email within one week of your second interview.
This email will contain information about when you can expect to hear a final hiring decision from us and will invite you to stay in contact with us throughout this process.

    • Final hiring decision.
We will contact you by email with our hiring decision. See the three possible decisions below.

Congratulations! You’re hired!
We will send you a job description an a letter of agreement that
details your position, dates of employment, and weekly rate of pay.
You will have two weeks to decide whether to accept the position and
return the hiring paperwork.

You are a qualified applicant, but…
We have many fewer positions than we have qualified applications, and it is
often necessary to turn away highly skilled and qualified applicants.
We may choose to put you on a waiting list and contact you if a position opens
at a later date. Also, it is possible that we feel you are a great fit for camp
but need more experience working with children or instructing a
particular activity. If this is the case, we will explain what we
are hoping to see from you and will set a date to follow up
with you and determine whether we can offer you a position.

We do not have a position for you at this time.
Camp is not a good fit for every person, and it is essential that we hire people
who will be successful in our unique environment. We are happy to have a
conversation with you to discuss the reasons for our decision and
encourage you to apply again in a future summer.
